I´m always curious about the most popular words. I even wanted to make some tiny tool to count word rating in some book (for example in the ¨World and Peace¨ of Tolstoj =) ). But today I found one project that done the same operation with more than 86000 English words!

These are the most popular words. The scale below the image shows the indicator that is situated in the left corner. I found very few nouns In the first hundreed. The most popular of them that I found was ¨time¨ at 66th position =) Words with the least of popularity are ¨conquistador¨, ¨workless¨.. I thought that they must be more popular than some technical or science terms. May be people who created  this project used such sources for statistics or may be it´s a true and this is real position of this words - I don´t know it.

I found some popular antonyms and other comparable words which is interesting to compare. Look at them:

Anyway this project shows only rating of words but not the popularity. It will be interesting to create large word cloud like tag cloud.. I googled about it and found one interesting project Wordle. It helps to create your personal word cloud for your content or for your site. For example this is word cloud of my blog (here is only 2-3 articles):
